My reaction upon skimming this was that the idea of an AU history where the Americas were unpopulated by humans would be kind of interesting. I get "What would it have been like if the megafauna hadn't been hunted out? What might these continents be like with no human intervention?" That's a cool idea. I get that.
And then I actually read it and now I'm just sad and baffled. I mean, I get the whole "unconcious white privilige" people were talking about, because I work very hard at not doing it. But going "It's too hard to write these stereotypes that I don't like, so instead of not writing them as stereotypes, I'll just erase them from the book" is WTbloodyF.
And damn it, I like Bujold. She needs to stop pulling the stupid on this.
