Eek. 'Huns' often, but not always means 'Xiongnu' (Hsiung-nu in Wade-Giles.) There are also a bunch of other terms, and the tribal distinctions are way blurry. It is a bitch to find information on them -- I wanted to write a paper in high school about the differences between the role of women in Xiongnu society and in Chinese society, but it didn't work. Grr.
(Xiongnu, iirc, means something rather nasty in Chinese, and so is probably not the best term to use, but 'Hun' is pretty imprecise.)
Um. I found a really good bibliography online several years ago, but I couldn't find most of the books in it. Will look into it lately.
