(x-posted from my writing journal, 'cause nobody ever reads that anyway.)
the gist:
There is this planet that is not earth, is not a colony of earth (as we have not yet started to colonize outside of our own system), that is inhabited by humans. There's one, call it a master-culture, with millions of variations within it. I'm thinking the culture conquored all the others on the planet, or something.
The culture is very... well, it's a caste system, religiously driven (five gods- two female, two male, one...I don't want to say sexless, but that's the closest thing to it), and not exactly patriarichal or matriarichal. There's sort of..sects, I guess. A group of male priests who want a male-dominated society, and a group of females that want the opposite.
So!
A scout ship happens upon this planet. There's two scouts, partners- every sense of the word- Chale and Aleksi (Ineedlastnames, help!). They discover that the natives are human, their reaction basically being:
Both: "The hell? This is not possible!"
Aleksi: *goes off on this half pissed-off, half intrugued rant about how this could happen but it CAN'T happen, damnit!*
Chale: ...This is probably not going to be good for any concerned. Oh well... Aleksi! *shuts him up*
Did I mention this will be my first attempt at any sort of slash beyond either "They kiss, kisskisskiss, they're done, they go home." Or "They kiss and then go off into the bedroom, and your dirty brain can take it from there."
So. We'll see how that turns out.
They land out in the wilderness- the planet, aside from the humans, is similar to earth but not exactly like it. Like, there are deer-like creatures, but you would call them deer or antelope or anything.
And dragons. Did I mention the dragons? That are really dinasaur-y things.
They land, Aleksi- the more scientific one of the two- stays at the ship, in case they need to take off in a hurry, and- um, I dunno, analyzes dirt or something. Chale goes out, observes some people, steals some clothes, and heads into the nearby city. There he meets a street-brat, about eight or nine years old, who he tries to enlist as aid. I haven't figured out language barriers yet. I'm thinking something like Farscape's microbes. The girl, Ilfi, is (understandably) suspicious, but eventually takes him to a temple. The head priest of the temple is an ambitious sort of fellow, and not the nicest character you'll ever meet. He interrogates Chale, and decides to take the ship. First he wants to get Aleksi into the city with Chale, so that a) he's unopposed, and b) he can dump the two of them into monster cages and be entertained. He assigns an acolyte (is that the right term?), Ruska, to take care of him in the meantime. Ruska's basically a good kid, about 13-15, ambitious, mischevious, but generally nice. Chale stays in the temple for a day or so, and then goes back to the ship, with Ruska tagging along. Chale convinces Aleksi that it's okay to head on in and be ambassadorish, and they go.
Stuff happens. The downfall of the civilization, actually, but I'm not sure on the specifics there. Ilfi helps the temple guy capture Aleksi and Chale and whatnot.
Aleksi and Chale are in the (dungeons/caves/monster cages/who the hell knows). Chale manages to survive an encounter with a small beastie, but while he's doing that, Aleksi gets et. Partly. It is gruesome and yucky and sad, especially as Aleksi is ten times as likeable (I just wrote lickable. He's that, too.) as Chale, even if he does have a bit of a temper problem.
Ruska risks his life to get down into whereveritis and help Chale get out. He (Ruska) then makes his way to the scout ship- with basically everything collapsing around his head. He gets there, but of course can't figure out how to do anything with it. He decides to just hole himself up- he at least manages to hit the button that closes the doors (he opened them with a control he stole from Aleksi)- but an earthquake opens up the ground beneath him, and Ruska and the scout ship fall into lava. This is also sad, as Ruska's pretty nifty.
Chale, meanwhile, has been chasing Ilfi all over, basically gone berserk, blaming her for Aleksi and the whole apocalypse-y stuff going on. Which is fairly accurate, as she managaed to be a big player in the situation. I'm going to have to get help on the logistics of this, 'cause what I want is basically an immediate ice age. Chale chases Ilfi to a cliff by the ocean, is about to kill her, she throws herself off the cliff, he follows, ocean freezes, notsomuch the end.

Some couple thousand years later, an alien ship with uberadvanced technology happens buy the planet.
Science-y Alien: Sir? There's life forms in the ice down there.

Th' end.
